Maureen O'hara..........................From her first appearances on the stage and screen Maureen O'Hara (b. 1920) was a captivating actor by her hair's reddish-orange color and her beautiful natural look and the passion she brought to the role of a spirited heroine. Whether she was saved from death row in Charles Laughton's The Hinchback (1939), 1939) while in love, learning miracles along alongside Natalie Wood on 34th Street (1947) or sharing a scene in a scene with John Wayne on The Quiet Man in 1952, she delighted viewers with her charismatic presence. Maureen O'Hara is the first book-length biography of the screen legend hailed as the queen of Technicolor. Aubrey Malone traces the life of the screen icon from Dublin, where she grew as a child, up to the heights of Hollywood. He draws information from Irish Film Institute production notes for films and also from historic newspapers and magazines. Malone explores the actresses relationship with her frequent co-star John Wayne as well as her friendship together with John Ford. Malone addresses the controversial question whether O'Hara was antifeminist or feminist. Though she was an icon of the golden age of cinema, O'Hara's tendency to keep her privacy private and the behavior of making public statements in opposition to her personal values have made her an enigma. This impressive biography offers the reader a glimpse of who is behind the imposing picture. The book dispels legends that surround her, providing an objective view of one of Hollywood's greatest icons.
