Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. Ruth Roman was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. When she was young her father was a carnival barker, leaving Ruth's mother no option but to become a cleaner woman and waitress to support her family. Ruth was born in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts where she attended high school. Her school was closed in two years, to go into acting. This was not an easy path to follow. Although she got a job in New York posing as a writer for a mystery publication, no theatre jobs were offered to her. As a hat check girl in a nightclub, she quit her job and moved back to Boston. In Boston, she worked to make ends meet with her ushering duties throughout the day, and in the evening, she performed in the New England Repertory Company, her first steady acting job. She also graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she specialized in drama.
